Born a Pillar of the State, Destined to Become the King of Hell

Born a pillar of the state, dead, a king of the underworld.

That is history’s final verdict on Han Qinhu.

Born into a family of generals, he wrestled a tiger in his youth, persuaded a city to surrender while riding alone, and stormed Jiankang with five hundred men, putting an end to three centuries of chaos with his own hands.

He was the founding blade of the Sui dynasty, a fearsome killer whose name kept the children of Jiangnan from daring to cry at night.

But

all worldly glory must eventually end.

When he closed his eyes, the true battlefield opened beneath the netherworld.

Facing ghost kings who carved up the underworld and wronged souls condemned to never be reborn, Han Qinhu set aside his marshal’s seal and took up the Book of Life and Death.

This is more than a legendary tale of a great general. It is also a stirring elegy that spans the worlds of humans and gods.
