I’ve Been Waiting for You for a Thousand Years!

I, Lin Xingwan, became the only “living secret” of Xiao Zhi, the Prince of Zhenbei, a thousand years ago.

The history books say he was cold and cruel, yet every time I “appeared out of nowhere,” he would quietly set another cup of warm tea on the table across from him.

The whole world feared him. Only I knew that this mighty warrior prince would secretly practice the off-key tunes I hummed, and scour ancient books for pain remedies whenever I said, “My wound hurts.”

Later, during a palace coup,

he shielded me with his blood-soaked body, his voice trembling as he whispered, “Don’t look. It’s filthy.”

And later still,

at an archaeological site a thousand years in the future, I opened the jade box he had left for me. Inside was just one line: “I have seen a thousand sails pass, with these mountains and rivers as witness. You alone are where my heart returns.”

Xiao Zhi, you said you’d wait for me. How could you… actually come here?
