Strange Tales of Nanling

Synopsis of Strange Tales of Nanling

Shen Qingwu was born with yin-yang eyes. On her first day at Nanling University, she heard a dead person's breathing from the upper bunk in her dorm. Starting with a torn page from a missing female student's diary, she gradually uncovers a shocking secret buried beneath this century-old university: a spirit-sealing formation laid by a Taoist priest in the Ming Dynasty, using the students' yang energy to suppress a yin leyline. Worse, the university's senior officials are sacrificing the living to keep the formation going.

A female ghost bullied to death is trapped in the laundry room; the ghost of a woman from the Republic of China era waits on the rooftop for a lover who never came back; and a senior student whose thesis was plagiarized and who jumped to her death wanders the study hall... Every vengeful spirit points to the same sinister heart of the conspiracy: the bell tower.

Shen Qingwu and a group of companions, each with their own special skills, venture deeper into the forbidden area of the old campus, gradually uncovering the fateful connection between her family and the century-old formation. She discovers that she has been part of the formation since birth, and that the unborn yin spirit inside her is even a key prepared for a blood sacrifice.

When the night of the full moon arrives and a hundred ghosts surround the campus, Shen Qingwu must choose between sacrificing herself to repair the formation and destroying it once and for all. The choice will determine not only whether she lives or dies, but the fate of thousands of people across the campus.

Told in episodic arcs, this story weaves everyday horror into familiar settings like dormitories, laundry rooms, and study halls, creating an atmosphere that grows more terrifying the more you think about it. It follows a group of young people as they grow through fear and kindle a glimmer of light in the darkness. When a century of karma is finally settled, the living prove more frightening than the dead, and redemption takes more courage than resistance.
