After You Sober Up, You'll Be My Favorite

After You Sober Up, You’re the One I Love Most is a story about quiet love and family. Gu Xinyan is not good with words, and Lin Xiating is discreet. The two enter into marriage, move into a house with a courtyard, and share every ordinary afternoon touched by sunlight. They have a daughter and a son. Their daughter, Gu Nuannuan, runs fast and talks loud, and knew how to do business by the age of three. Their son, Gu Xinghe, follows along, slower and steadier. The first character he wrote was “Dad,” filling an entire page, line after straight line. Both families came. The elders sat beneath the veranda chatting, their laughter drifting inside. Lin Bangguo beat Gu Xinyan in a hundred-meter race and said even fishing meant running, then sprinted off to claim a spot. The light in the courtyard was warm, and the white daisies on the ground sat petal to petal. No one came to pick them. This book is about these little, quiet things that need no words. At the very end, Lin Xiating said, “Thank you.” Gu Xinyan asked, “For what?” She said, “For not running away.” He was silent for a second, then held her a little tighter. After you sober up, you’re the one I love most. It isn’t just a sweet nothing; it’s an entire life together from here on out.
