Spirit Artist

Han Feifei hits a creative block while painting Soaring on the Wings of Dreams for the National Youth Painters Competition. For three straight weeks, she cannot make any progress, and the flock of cranes in her painting lacks a sense of life.

During an unexpected power outage, Han Feifei happens upon an old portfolio her mentor, Qin Zixian, has kept hidden for years. Inside is a series of unfinished portraits of his beloved from thirty years ago.

The expression and details of the woman in the paintings, Wu Zijing, astonish Han Feifei. In particular, the "sorrow on the verge of falling" resonates with the creative struggle she herself is facing.

Qin Zixian suddenly appears and reveals the tragedy from thirty years ago: after an argument, his fiancee was in a car accident, leaving him forever unable to finish the painting.

From this buried past, Han Feifei comes to understand the pain true art requires, and begins to rethink her competition entry.
