A Lone City Guarding the Realm

Introduction to Gu Cheng Shou Shan He, a Tomato Novel In 1258, the Mongol army marched south, and Sichuan fell. The young Shen Yanqiu watched helplessly as his father was struck by an arrow and killed. His father’s only dying message was a blood-written note: “There is a traitor in the army.” With his father’s saber, he fled to Diaoyu Fortress, an isolated stronghold perched on cliffs beside the Jialing River. Refugees swarmed through the fortress, and food supplies were nearly gone. A traitor lurked in the shadows as the Mongol army jeered outside the walls. Shen Yanqiu had only wanted to look after himself, but through one bloody battle after another, he grew from a cold, self-protective boy into the commander responsible for the fortress’s survival. Surrounded by rivers on three sides, with sheer cliffs rising a thousand ren high. Thirty-six years of holding out, two generations fighting to the death. The boatmen’s blood stained the Jialing River, and the tribal chieftains swore a blood pact. When the grain ran out, they ate tree bark; when the water was gone, they climbed the cliffs. On the day the fortress gates opened, he accepted the scorn of the ages. He said only: “Let posterity judge me as it will, so long as the ten thousand people in the city are safe today.” One isolated fortress, two people, thirty-six years. What they defended was more than the land. ⚔️ Historical authenticity: a recreation of the Battle of Diaoyu Fortress ⚔️ Hardcore battlefield action: tactics for defending and assaulting natural strongholds ⚔️ Love of country and family: the unyielding spirit of a fortress that never surrenders ⚔️ Tenderness amid chaos: a stoic general and a gentle physician First published online by Tomato Novel.
