School romance, rekindled love
Jiang Ruan met Li Xiao that summer, when they were both just eighteen.
Cicadas sang in the leafy plane trees, heralding the height of summer. The evening breeze drifted in through the window, and a young love story was just beginning.
On the day she went to Shashi No. 1 High School, Jiang Ruan saw the school bully and his friends beating up a boy.
“Stop!” The boy on the ground was already bruised and swollen, but Jiang Ruan overcame her fear and rushed forward.
She had no idea where the courage came from. She ran over and shoved the gang of troublemakers aside.
“Wow, people still play hero these days?” one of them said after being pushed away.
Li Xiao, the red-haired ringleader, folded his arms and looked down at her. “What’s this, little girl? Trying to be a hero and save a pretty boy? Did you even think about whether you’re up to it?”
Later, Jiang Ruan discovered that the school bully was in her class. She did her best to avoid Li Xiao.
But Li Xiao kept showing up in her life. Because he liked her so much, he became painstakingly careful around her.
