Consort Duan Won't Marry: I'm a Princess Consort at the Frontier

[Two formidable minds in a battle of wits · Married first, love later · He thinks she’s a spy, she thinks he’s putting on an act · In the end, he falls first]

Before bed, I took a quiz: “Which character from Empresses in the Palace are you?”

The result left me dumbfounded: Consort Duan.

When I opened my eyes again, I had become Qi Yuebin, the legitimate daughter of the Tiger Guard General’s residence.

I hadn’t married Fourth Prince yet, and I was still Nian Shilan’s close friend.

I knew that if I married into that square-walled Forbidden City, my life would be over.

So I ran!

I pretended to be ill, gave up trying, and even asked Nian Shilan to help stir up trouble. I tried every trick in the book.

At last, Yinzhen arranged my marriage to Xiao Yanzhi, the Prince of Zhenbei stationed at the border, rumored to be “decisive and ruthless, cold and merciless.”

On our wedding night, he gripped my chin. “I won’t touch one of the emperor’s spies.”

I looked aggrieved on the outside, but inside I was overjoyed: Great, we can each live our own lives.

I thought I could lie flat and enjoy a peaceful retirement. Who knew

Why was this icy prince getting stranger and stranger?

Later, Xiao Yanzhi cornered me against the wall, his eyes red.

“Qi Yuebin, do you even have a heart?”

“Go ahead and hit me, curse me, anything! Just stop acting like a stranger all the time!”

Me: ???

Weren’t you the one who said we should each live our own lives???
