I Really Want to Slack Off, but the Entertainment Industry Won't Let Me

In his previous life, Lin Chen was a top-tier star who worked himself to the bone and died suddenly on his way to an appointment. This time, reborn in the body of a namesake “useless pretty face,” he immediately gives up: terminate his contract! Quit showbiz! Anyone who wants to hustle can hustle!

His laid-back rules: work nine to five, fish and slack off. Nobody gets to make him work overtime!

But fate just loves to go against him.

He’s fishing by the river when he accidentally gets filmed for Back to Field. With his sharp tongue and incredible acting skills, he roasts a top-tier heartthrob into silence, makes the director cry, and casually gains millions of fans.

While slacking off at a scenic spot, he runs into a historical drama crew in need of help. One look from him outshines the male lead, and the director rewrites the script on the spot, begging him to take the role.

Even when he livestreams himself gaming, he manages to prank Chen He and Zhang Yixing into becoming “partners in misery,” earning him the online title of “ultimate troll.”

More absurdly, he learns martial arts for self-defense, only to be dragged by Huang Jingyu into an action blockbuster. He studies traditional Chinese medicine for his health, only to become an ambassador for intangible cultural heritage, with even the Space Administration asking him to promote them.

Everyone wants him to become famous. He just wants to be a lazy fish.

Then he meets the fairy-like Liu Yifei. He only wants to date quietly, but the entire internet starts urging them to marry: “Please get married already!”

Looking at the trending topics dominating the charts, the mountain of scripts, and Liu Yifei’s gentle smile, Lin Chen is close to tears. “When will the country pass a ‘Mandatory Retirement from Showbiz Act’? I just want to go fishing!”

The internet laughs and replies: “Quit showbiz? Maybe in your next life!”
