Reborn in 1981: A Veteran Hunts the Xing'an Mountains

Qin Luo was reborn.

Back in the late autumn of 1981, he stood outside the military recruitment medical exam station.

In his previous life, he had signed up without telling his family, served his country, and earned great honors. But when he returned to Liushutun, battered and sick, with a prosthetic leg, his family had already fallen apart. His father and Uncle Liu had both died in a forestry accident. His mother had lost her mind. His younger brother had turned against him. His childhood sweetheart, Liu Ruxue, had been married off in an arranged match and died in childbirth. Weeds had overgrown her grave.

For forty-five years, he had watched over four graves alone, living out his days as a lonely old man.

This time, he wouldn’t join the army. At the exam station, he turned and ran, taking a shortcut back to the hills behind the village. He rescued his childhood friend Liu Zhanpeng from a wild boar’s tusks, killed the beast with one stroke, and brought home a hundred-jin boar. From then on, he set out on a life in the mountains with two hunting dogs and a broad-bladed knife.

He used a slingshot to hunt pheasants, wire snares for rabbits, and targeted squirrels to collect their pelts. A fine pelt sold for fifteen yuan, equal to three days’ wages for a forestry worker. Every ravine and ridge in these woods was his hunting ground.

He would make up for everything he had owed his family in his previous life.

And he would make sure that the girl with two braids and a little tiger tooth showing when she smiled never shed another tear in this life.

Forty-five years of life, reborn in an instant back in Liushutun. Hunting in the mountains and protecting his family, this time the whole forest would be his hunting ground, and there would always be a place for you in it.
