The Seventh Victim

On a stormy night, at Riverside Park, a woman is blindfolded with red cloth and frightened to death on a park bench.

An old scar marks her left wrist, dating back 18 years. A note is left at the scene: “The first.”

When detective Lin Mo arrives, his head is splitting with pain. He can’t remember anything from before the age of ten. All he remembers is the day his mother was led away blindfolded.

Eighteen years ago, the serial killer known as the “Rainy Night Butcher” murdered four people in exactly the same way. The case was never solved and became a cold case.

Now the same methods have appeared again.

As Lin Mo investigates, he discovers that every clue points in one direction:

Himself.

Someone used his account to access the old case files.

The red cloth on the victim bears dust from the walls of his family’s old home.

The fourth victim died in the old neighborhood where he lived as a child.

And the seventh person who went missing 18 years ago was his mother.

He is not the orphaned child of a victim.

He is the killer’s son.

When the truth comes to light, the person he must testify against is his own father.

“Don’t trust the red cloth. It’s meant for the living.”

“A good person who stays silent is more frightening than a killer.”
