A Madman Forged into a Sovereign

The Shen family has a madman named Shen Nian. By day, he’s the gentle and refined young master of the Shen family. By night, he’s a ruthless hidden blade. Only in front of Bai Lin is he willing to pretend to be normal. He kept up the act for three years, until he believed it himself. Then Bai Lin slapped so-called evidence in his face. He didn’t explain. He went straight into the dark prison. A year later, he came out gaunt, the light gone from his eyes. Bai Lin knelt and begged him to come back. “I know I was wrong. Let’s start over.” Shen Nian smiled. “The Shen Nian you loved is dead. You can’t love the person I am now.” A bottle of water was handed to him from beside him. The man said, “If you’re tired of pretending, take a break.” Shang Yan had waited five years for him, only to find a mad beast. But he wasn’t afraid. Because the beast only bites other people. With him, it keeps its claws sheathed. Later, Bai Lin asked him, “Did you ever love him?” Shen Nian pointed at Shang Yan and said: “He saw me at my craziest and didn’t run. What about you?”
