Chronicles of the Gods and Demons: The Heir of Xuanzang Is Hunted from the Start

The most miserable little beggar in Chang'an, Chen Xuan was waiting to die in a ruined temple. He had no idea he was the last descendant of Xuanzang's bloodline. On New Year's Eve, the Black Cavalry Guard slaughtered everyone in the temple, and their blood awakened a century-old seal. The Buddha statue exploded, and a scroll of the Golden Cicada Shedding Its Shell Art descended from the heavens. Only then did he learn that the eighty-one scriptures Xuanzang had brought back from his journey west a century ago held the power of demons and fiends, along with supreme divine abilities. Rumor had it across the martial world: whoever obtained a fragment of the true scriptures could inherit the legacy of gods and demons! The Black Cavalry Guard wanted him dead, the Beggars' Guild wanted to capture him, and the false Buddhist sect wanted to drain his bloodline to make pills. Then he tore off the first page of the scriptures, and the phantom of a golden cicada appeared behind him. “So it turns out I'm the one practicing the true orthodox teachings.” From then on, he used his standing as a beggar to seize Buddhism's fortune, slay the Black Cavalry Guard, and gather every true scripture in the land. At the bottom of the Flowing Sands River, he awakened the legacy of Sha Wujing and split the river with a single staff strike. In Gao Village, he exposed the conspiracy behind the Blissful Zen sect and used the Thirty-Six Transformations to toy with the demonic monks. On Flame Mountain, he seized the Banana Fan and burned countless enemies to ashes. Only then did the world realize: The beggar who had once been chased through the streets had gathered the legacies of all five members of the pilgrimage. Chen Xuan merely wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and looked toward Chang'an. “State Preceptor, you wiped out my entire family back then...” “Your evil Golden Cicada thoughts are mine to collect.”
