Ballad of the Yanshui: Two Thousand Years Reflected in Mountains and Rivers

Using the Taizi River in Liaoyang, known in antiquity as the Yanshui, as a thread through time, this story connects more than two thousand years of history: Crown Prince Dan of Yan’s attempt to assassinate Qin, Qin Kai’s campaign against the Hu, murals from the Han and Wei dynasties, Buddhist pagodas from the Liao and Jin dynasties, wars of the Ming and Qing, and Cao Xueqin’s ancestral home. Through the fated entanglements of three generations who “touch ancient sites and transmigrate between past and present,” it celebrates the enduring spirit of China, where mountains and rivers stand eternal and cultural traditions carry on.
