Godfather of Qingdao: Nie Lei’s Underworld Journey

At the docks in 1990, nineteen-year-old Nie Lei shattered Scarface’s nose with one punch. Nobody could have imagined that this mute young laborer would one day become the most feared name in Qingdao. Over the next ten years, he went from arcade brawls to Zhongshan Road, from street fights to hotel lobbies. He crippled an old cop with twenty-eight knife wounds, and after that night at the Yizhong Crown, all of Qingdao knew just how ruthless a man surnamed Nie could be. Then, in the autumn of 2000, more than twenty police cars surrounded the hotel. On the day he was executed by lethal injection, he said one last thing. A truly ruthless man stays ruthless from beginning to end. Based on a real person. Not for the faint of heart.
