A Chaoshan Only Son and I Reclaim the Wasteland and Make Our Fortune

In a tucked-away corner of Chaoshan’s watery countryside, there are two men who are anything but ordinary.

Chen Zexin is a famously rugged local man. He carries a roasted sweet potato in his arms and insists, as he hands it over, “This is more precious than a wife,” while his ears turn so red they look ready to drip blood.

Lin Yanzhou is an outsider, a “cultured man” whose muddled high school biology knowledge slowly transforms the village, leaving everyone prosperous and well-fed. He pushes over a freshly made wooden basin and smiles as he praises Lin’s composting method, only to get a slightly smug reply: “Well... could I have an egg, too?”

Chaoshan rice noodles roll in steaming broth, and the calls of the dragon boat race ring across the river. On one side are the steady routines of building infrastructure and improving farmland; on the other is the tenderness the rugged man can’t hide, and the quiet affection taking root in the “village genius.”

As the days flow gently by, their story takes root like the old banyan tree at the village entrance, their roots quietly entwining until they can no longer be parted...

Top (Chen Zexin): A rugged local man, tough-talking but soft-hearted, strong and capable.

Bottom (Lin Yanzhou): A transmigrator, a half-baked academic prodigy, gentle and resilient.
