Swap Husbands + Sweet Romance + Groveling + Marriage First, Love Later

By imperial decree, the Empress Dowager demotes Xiao Yanzi, the Fifth Prince Yongqi’s wife, to the position of concubine.

Yongqi begs her to endure it: “You’re the only one in my heart. The principal wife is only a figurehead.”

Xiao Yanzi laughs and hands him divorce papers.

On the day she leaves the palace, the gentle and refined Ertai blocks her way. “You did the right thing.”

Later, Yongqi comes back begging for another chance, his eyes red, only to see Ertai shielding her as he calmly wipes the blood from the corner of his mouth.

“Fifth Prince, she’s mine now.”

The boldest thing Xiao Yanzi ever did was divorce Yongqi.

He wept and told her he loved her, that his principal wife was just a figurehead, and that he would spend his life in Xiao Yanzi’s room alone.

She asked him, “What did Miss Shen do wrong? Why should she marry into your family only to spend her life as a widow?”

Yongqi had no answer.

Xiao Yanzi smiled and signed the divorce papers. “I won’t share a man with anyone.”

On the day she left the palace, Ertai stood outside the gates for three hours.

Before long, everyone at the Hanlin Academy residence knew that the second young master had changed.

Once a gentle and refined gentleman, he now followed one person with his eyes wherever she went.

Fu Zhi secretly asked her, “Does my second brother like you?”

Before Xiao Yanzi could answer, a warm voice sounded behind her:

“It’s not a matter of liking.”

She turned and met Ertai’s unfathomable gaze.

“I’m determined to have you.”

One-line premise: After the Fifth Prince demotes her from wife to concubine, Xiao Yanzi decisively divorces him. She never expects the once-gentle Ertai to reveal his scheming side, setting off a game of “you chase, I run.” Can their love story finally reach a happy ending?

P.S. The one who has to grovel is Yongqi, not Ertai.
