I Am Not the One Holding the Pen

I Am Not the Author is a long-form work blending metafiction and post-apocalyptic fantasy. The story takes place in a wasteland after the “Ink Calamity”: the sky is an inverted sea of ink, the earth is made of yellowed paper, and “words” are power. Write “burn” and flames will engulf the heavens; write “sever” and you can cut through cause and effect. You can even control “character settings” and rewrite established facts.

The protagonist, Lin Mo, was a web-novel editor in his previous life who died suddenly after staying up all night reviewing manuscripts. After he transmigrates, the “Finale Library” awakens within him, granting him the “Finale Pen.” But the world is facing a doomsday countdown to “Chapter 10,000.” The Revisionists seek to “force an ending” and destroy everything; the Abandoned-Plot Tower craves “infinite serialization” and descends into madness. Meanwhile, Lin Mo’s kidnapped younger sister, Lin Yan, turns out to be the key “prologue” sealing the apocalypse.

On his journey to find his sister, Lin Mo gathers a group of companions: the cold-faced character crafter Su Li, the battle maniac Zhao Tiezhu, and Mo Linglong, who can foresee events through her saved drafts. But he discovers that his greatest enemy is none other than his former self, a “dropped author” from his previous life. As characters awaken to free will and the boundaries between “reader” and “author” blur, Lin Mo must write a third path beyond “ending” and “serialization”: one where the story belongs to everyone, and the ending becomes a new beginning.

This is an allegory about the nature of creation: words are not only weapons, but proof of existence. And the true “author” is not a ruler who controls the plot, but a witness who breathes alongside the characters.
