The CEO’s Mystery Lunch Box

Just as Yu Menglong starts his first job, he accidentally smashes an outrageously expensive crystal goblet in the rooftop garden.

Faced with a bill for 68,000 yuan, he grits his teeth and writes out a payment plan: “I don’t have the money, but I can buy you lunch every day to pay it off.”

From then on, he quietly brings two boxed lunches every day, one for himself and one for his mysterious “creditor.”

Then one night, while driving for Didi as a side job, he picks up a man who is cold on the outside and even colder on the inside.

The man in the back seat glances at his profile, his face full of scrutiny and wariness, as if to say, “This deliberate attempt to get close to me is far too clumsy.”

Do I even know you? Yu Menglong screams inwardly.

The third time they meet, Yu Menglong takes a side job on a yacht, gets drugged, and, in desperation, grabs a man by the sleeve, begging him to take him away. The man looks murderous and disgusted: “Playing hard to get!”

One thinks the other is a calculating schemer. The other doesn’t even know his name.

This “installment plan,” which began with an outrageously expensive goblet, quietly stirs up a bittersweet warmth in their daily lunch boxes, a feeling neither of them ever expected.
