In early spring 2026, three-year-old Su Nian'an is clutching her beloved toy horse when an accidental touch sends her tumbling into a rift in time. When she comes to, she is in Wolf Valley, the last stronghold of an Eighth Route Army independent company in the Jinchaji Border Region, in the bitter winter of 1938. The wind howls, the soldiers are in rags, and their position is on the brink of collapse. At the same time, she is bound to a borderless livestream System, broadcasting her every move to millions of viewers.
At first, the comments are full of skepticism and jokes. Then the viewers see it for themselves: the soldiers hold their positions despite being ravenous, their frozen hands gripping their rifles. Amid the smoke and gunfire, little Nian'an raises her toy horse and uses her childish voice to comfort the wounded “uncles and big brothers.” When Japanese artillery rains down, the soldiers shield the little girl with their own bodies, giving their lives to protect their homeland and their fellow countrymen. The livestream erupts.
The viewers launch a relief effort of their own, sending snacks, medicine, clothes, and even weapon blueprints through the System, which turns them into real supplies for the soldiers. Warm words from the future, spoken in little Nian'an's soft, childish voice, bring comfort to the heroes in the freezing winter. A moving act of protection spanning 88 years unfolds: the passion of battle mingles with a glimmer of hope in the face of despair, while the three-year-old and the battle-hardened soldiers save one another, reflecting the love of country shared by millions.
Little Nian'an becomes a bridge across time, allowing us today to protect the heroes of the past and letting their loyalty and steadfastness, buried by the years, shine once more. This extraordinary tale reminds us: our land is at peace today because our forebears forged it with their blood and sacrifice.
Born in China, we keep watch without end. What a privilege.
