Snow over the Mass Grave

On a snowy night at a mass grave, twelve-year-old Shen Zhiwei drags a straw mat through the piles of corpses, searching for her older sister.

It was the first time she had seen death, and the first time she understood:

In this world, no one could be her shelter. She could only save herself.

A once-renowned family of physicians in Jiangnan was wiped out overnight.

Her sister fled the capital with her, but mistook a scoundrel for a good man and was deceived, humiliated, and beaten to death by the spoiled Jiang Wei.

The Prefect of Jingzhao dismissed her as a "lying commoner," and her sister died on the spot. Her body was thrown to the dogs.

"They thought two orphaned girls could only be sacrifices to the powerful."

"But I will live, and use blades, poison, and human nature to make them pay, one debt at a time."
