The Seven Lives of Misty Records

My name is Xia Xiao, and I’m an archaeologist. Thanks to a jade pendant carved with a yin-yang fish, I transmigrated by accident to the Shang dynasty, where I learned a whole arsenal of Taoist arts. Later, I married my wife, a flood dragon, and we settled in seclusion on Penglai Immortal Island. Xu Fu, acting on the First Emperor’s orders to seek the elixir of immortality, discovered Penglai Immortal Island. Xu Fu was actually descended from ancient Taoist masters and knew the secret of the elixir. He captured me using a beauty trap and forced the flood dragon to hand over her inner core so he could attain Golden Immortal status. To protect me, the flood dragon crippled her own cultivation and transformed into a black jade dragon stone. After settling the stone body my wife had become, I used the jade pendant to travel through different dynasties, catching ghosts, vanquishing demons, and forming good karma. Each transmigration requires accumulating “a thousand good deeds” (exorcising a ghost earns around 1–10 points, while vanquishing a demon earns around 10–100, depending on the difficulty). There is no time limit on each stay. My age does not change after transmigrating, but I become weak for a month. Every hundred years or so, a wisp of the flood dragon’s spirit is reincarnated, but without its memories. I must find the seven reincarnations of her spirit and accumulate enough merit to truly bring my wife back and rekindle our love. (No AI. Resist AI, starting with me.)
