Siheyuan: Ten-Year-Old Zhu Ye Sets the Whole Courtyard Straight

Reborn in 1945, I become ten-year-old He Yuzhu.

All I have is a steamed bun made of white flour. Inside the house, my mother is dying in childbirth. Outside the door are Japanese bayonets and a courtyard full of “good neighbors.”

But this time, things are different.

I've gained a [Fateful Choices System] in my head. It doesn't give me divine weapons or treasures. It only coldly presents me with options whenever I reach a crossroads in my fate:

A: Go find my father. Risk: encounter a Japanese patrol, 70% chance.

B: Trust the neighbors. Risk: have everything I own stolen, 100% chance.

C: Go out alone. Risk: death. Potential reward: [A glimpse of the future: a woman in a white coat hands me a box of penicillin.]

I choose C.

From then on, my life as a ten-year-old takes a different path.

From saving my mother's life right under the noses of the Japanese collaborators to snatching food from the jaws of the Kuomintang's looting frenzy; from becoming the most deeply buried “nail” in the underground resistance to keeping my family afloat through every storm of the times.

Yi Zhonghai, Jia Zhangshi, Xu Damao... Go do your own thing.

He Daqing, you'll never run off with a widow in this life.

My battlefield has long since grown beyond this courtyard.

This is the story of a boy who takes his whole family with him, starts out in a Beijing hutong in 1945, makes his way through war, turmoil, and change, and ultimately lives to become a legend of his era. This story is entirely fictional. Any resemblance to actual events is purely coincidental!!
