This is not a wish-fulfillment story. This is not a wish-fulfillment story. This is not a wish-fulfillment story.
This is a tragedy. This is a tragedy. This is a tragedy.
Stop looking for the all-powerful Great Sage Equal to Heaven.
Some have written of him slaying demons and vanquishing evil before attaining enlightenment;
others have written of him rebelling against the heavenly gods and Buddhas, invincible in all things.
But the Sun Wukong I write about
He rebelled. He burned with fury.
In the end, he could not break free of that invisible chain,
and became the most docile dog at the side of the gods and Buddhas.
This is not a wish-fulfillment story.
It is a Journey to the West allegory for adults.
It is a full account of a hero being tamed into a dog.
It is the final bloodstained monument to those names erased from the history books, names that should never have been forgotten.
There is no happy ending here.
Only blood that has yet to cool, and resentment.
