Reborn in 1982: King of the Greater Khingan Range

On a blizzardy night in 2026, the impoverished forest ranger Qi Shiqian drinks himself into a stupor, consumed by regret, and is reborn in 1982 at a hunting ground in the Greater Khingan Mountains of Northeast China.

In his previous life, he made a fortune trading furs and became a force to be reckoned with in the mountains. But after his beloved died tragically, his brothers turned against him, and he was framed, he went bankrupt and eventually died alone. This time, at seventeen, he grips his hunting knife and saves his childhood friend in the swirling snow, preventing the tragedy from taking root.

Drawing on forty-four years of hunting experience, he takes his hounds through forests and across snowy plains: killing wild boars with a single slash, startling pheasants from the trees with a slingshot, trapping clever hares with wire snares, and bringing down roe deer with a crossbow. At Five Finger Peak, he lays a vast, inescapable trap, determined to capture the priceless sable. Squirrel pelts earn him his first fortune; he wrestles a rifle from a bear’s jaws and fights his way to safety. Two families sit around the heated brick bed, sharing pork and pickled cabbage, their coarse porcelain bowls clinking with the warmth of everyday life.

In the village, people show both kindness and coldness, while hunters are entangled in old grudges and rivalries. Qi Shiqian must protect his hot-tempered father, loving mother, and honest childhood friend. Above all, he must protect the girl with the red hair ribbon and make sure the tragedy of an arranged bride exchange never happens again.

This is a hunter’s rebirth, and a guardian’s journey. As the winds of reform and opening-up sweep through the forests and snowy plains, he holds a rifle in his left hand to uphold the rules of the mountains and seizes the pulse of the times with business opportunities in his right. The entire Greater Khingan range is his hunting ground, and also a treasure trove he’ll use to support his large family and help the villagers build better lives.
