The Chronicles of Jing Yan: Aiding Ying Zheng and Supporting Fu Su to Unite the Nine Provinces

Late in the Warring States period, in Ying, the capital of Chu.

Fifteen-year-old Jing Yan kneels beside his dying grandfather's bed and hears the last words of the old general, who spent his life defending the state: "If you become a general, do not serve Chu."

He is descended from one of Chu's Three Great Clans. His grandfather is a renowned general, and his father died in battle. But what he has seen with his own eyes is that anyone offering advice must prepare three gifts of "gold, silk, and jade"; that the army's armor is rotting and more than half the soldiers' pay is withheld; and that Qu Yuan's descendants make ends meet by copying books, waiting for an imperial decree that will never come.

This is not a story about a transmigrator who gets cheat powers.

It is the story of an idealist who keeps compromising and standing firm amid the tides of history.

He leaves Chu and travels to Handan as a merchant under the name "Jing Yan." There he meets the young Ying Zheng and receives half a Qin coin as a gift. After thirty-eight years in Qin, he rises to Grand Commandant, Imperial Secretary, and Left Chancellor. He revises Qin law, assists the First Emperor, and in his later years passes on everything he has learned to Fusu.

He does not seek to change history. He simply plants the possibility of changing history in the heart of a young man.

Five volumes and two thousand chapters tell how one man, caught in the cracks of his age, seeks a way to survive, for himself and for all under heaven.

"I have no regrets. I only remember."
