Because I'm a Woman, I Earn 6,000 While the Intern Gets 12,000

While I was using the toilet, I heard the new hire I'd been put in charge of loudly sharing the good news with their family by the sink outside.

They'd just been made permanent, with a salary of 12,000.

I fell silent.

I'd been at the company for six years.

In my first year, my salary was 6,000, with no raise.

In my second year, it was still 6,000. At the end of the year, I got a 5% raise, an extra 300.

In my third, fourth, and fifth years, my salary didn't change: 6,300.

Today, after talking with HR in my sixth year, I learned that my raise next year would still be 5%, bringing my salary to 6,615.

I now manage coordination for five projects. I couldn't keep up, so they hired three new people for me to train.

The latest one just got made permanent, with a salary of 12,000.

That's twice what I make after six years of work.

I walked out of the restroom and went straight to the HR office to resign.

Sister Li from HR was surprised.

"Why?"

"The pay is too low, and I hate this job."
