I Command 800,000 Troops, and You Want Me to Kill Myself?

Shen Che wakes up as the tragic male supporting character in a romance novel, the Prince of Zhenbei commanding eight hundred thousand iron cavalry.

The first thing he sees is a eunuch holding out an imperial edict: “His Majesty grants the general an honorable retirement. Return to the capital!”

According to the original story, he should return in bitter defeat, lose his military power, and watch his family be wiped out.

But this time, Shen Che flips the table, chops down the eunuch’s attendant, and splashes blood across the tent: “Go tell the person in the palace that if they want my troops, they can come and take them!”

He assumes he is dealing with a foolish empress who discards her allies once they are no longer useful, and is already planning to “purge the court of traitors” and find a new way to live.

Then he receives a secret letter soaked in blood, from the young empress deep in the palace, who seems cruel:

“I am a puppet. This edict is not my true will. Qin Yuelan forged my edict to harm you and seize the northern army. Do not return to the capital. Do not trust the edict. Hold the northern frontier. Written in blood, Huaijin.”

Shen Che grins as he reads the letter.

So the one trying to kill him is the empress’s “dear friend,” the female general who also commands troops.

At court, Qin Yuelan smugly declares, “Your Majesty, Shen Che has defied the imperial edict and rebelled. His entire clan must be executed!”

Looking at the dark-armored banners blotting out the sky beyond the hall, the empress smiles faintly. “General Qin, guess who Shen Che’s eight hundred thousand soldiers are listening to now?”

Outside the Golden Throne Hall, the clatter of iron armor surges closer like a tide.

Shen Che’s voice rings through the palace: “By His Majesty’s blood-written edict, purge the traitors at court!”
