A Crazed Accountant Transmigrates into a Eunuch and Forges a Stand-In Emperor

This is a story about seeking and protecting.

The main plot is simple: Twenty years ago, Zhu Yikun, heir to the Prince of Jing, was poisoned to death, and his bones were buried in a dry well in a mass grave. One day, twenty years later, a young man who had escaped from the Imperial Prison, Zhu Jue, and a woman who had returned to life in another body, Lin Wei, were drawn by chance into the old case. They fled as they investigated, aided by countless people: Nanny Qin, who had pretended to be mad for twenty-one years; Gu Zhenguan, who had pursued the case for twenty years; Gu Qing, who risked his life to protect the clues; and the merchant Chu Xiang, who sheltered them in secret. In the end, they found the dry well and recovered the heir’s remains, bringing the truth to light.

But what this story really wants to tell is about those who “couldn’t let go.”

Nanny Qin couldn’t let go of the young boy she had cared for. She pretended to be mad for twenty-one years, waiting for justice. Gu Zhenguan couldn’t let go of his son. He investigated for twenty years and died at the hands of those people. Gu Qing couldn’t let go of his father. He walked alone into the mass grave and never came back out. Lin Wei and Zhu Jue couldn’t let go of that child. They spent their lives guarding those memories and those graves.

And there was the child himself, Zhu Yikun. He lived only eight years, but with the last of his strength, he told his nanny, “Nanny, I’ve become a star. I watch over you every day.”

He really did become a star.
