Deputy Commander, Report to the Neighborhood!

He was once a deputy commander with thousands of troops under his command. After leaving the military, he became a “rookie” at his neighborhood residents' committee.

On his first day, faced with a yearlong dispute over square dancing, Jin Xiangdong unfolded a community map. “We'll designate quiet zones, set up a self-regulation committee, and cap the volume at sixty decibels.” The troublemaking aunties stared at him in disbelief. “Secretary, what did you do before this?” “I was a soldier.”

From then on, the neighborhood became his new battlefield.

He reorganized the property management office with a “rookie squad accountability system,” quelled rumors through “wartime public-opinion management,” and solved the problem of meal deliveries for the elderly using a “logistics supply chain.” When foreign capital maliciously shorted local companies, the title of his report read: “Determination and Plan for Launching a Battle to Defend the Industrial Chain.”

From family squabbles to the nation's livelihood,

he never forgot: leaving the military doesn't mean losing the soldier's spirit. The battlefield may change, but the fight never ends.
