This story begins with the birth of humanity and all things in heaven and earth. Set against the backdrop of the Heavenly Court and the countless events, great and small, that have unfolded across the Three Realms over millions of years, it tells the tales of Sun Wukong, Yang Jian, and Nezha, along with many important supporting characters, through their past and present lives.
In the story, Yang Jian and Chang'e find each other after three lifetimes. In his first life, Nezha falls deeply in love with the Goddess of the Luo River; in his third, he finally ends up with Xiao Qing. Sun Wukong and Yin Jiao are reincarnated and come together over three lifetimes. She goes from being the Handsome Monkey King to the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, then the Victorious Fighting Buddha. Later, she leaves the Buddhist realm and returns to the Heavenly Court, where she unexpectedly rises from the Great Sage Equal to Heaven to become the Heavenly Court's female emperor. She brings prosperity to the Three Realms, saves humanity and the entire Three Realms, and enables humans and immortals to live as equals.
Here, Sun Wukong is the true Handsome Monkey King, a female Great Sage Equal to Heaven. She is Yu the Great's youngest daughter and the Jade Emperor's illegitimate daughter. Along with her siblings, including the Bull Demon King, she grows up from a Calabash Brother into one of the Seven Great Sages.
In this story, Tang Monk is Li Yuanba, the fourth younger brother of Emperor Taizong of Tang Li Shimin. After being struck dead by lightning, he is revived by a deity and renamed Chen Xuanzang, so he can carry out his imperial brother's mission to complete the Journey to the West.
Zhong Kui is the reincarnation of Shen Gongbao. After striking his head against a pillar and dying, he rises from a judge of the underworld to become the Demon-Quelling Marshal and Celestial Master Zhong Kui.
