I Woke Up to Find My Soul Swapped With My Female Roommate

When otaku programmer Lin Fan and polished office worker Su Xiaoyu complain to the antique mirror in their rental apartment on the same stormy night, they wake up to find the world turned upside down: he has become “her,” and she has become “him.”

So begins a chaotic urban survival experiment. In the body of a goddess, Lin Fan launches into an explanation of code logic during an advertising meeting, nearly leaving the client questioning reality. Meanwhile, Su Xiaoyu, now in a man’s body, tries to fix a program bug by acting cute, frightening his coworkers into thinking he has a virus. From the “eyes-closed agreement” in the restroom to the besties’ soul-searching questions, from exchanging diaries full of mutual praise to teaming up to handle surprise video calls from both sets of parents, the two stumble through their hilarious role reversal.

They try every bizarre method they can find online to switch back: banging their heads together in sync, using strong electric shocks, and even nearly sharing a “true love’s kiss.” Every attempt ends in ridiculous failure. Yet, as they’re forced to experience each other’s lives, the levelheaded straight man sees the resilience and sensitivity of women in the workplace, while the lively young woman comes to understand the tenderness and sense of responsibility behind the tech geek. When rumors force them to pretend to be a couple, and their heartbeats fall into sync during a power outage, the understanding born of absurdity has already quietly turned into love.

At last, on a night when they let go of their fixation and confirm their feelings, their souls return to their proper bodies. But the story doesn’t end there: their real romance is only just beginning. From “best partners” to “lifelong companions,” they use understanding to write the most unique code of love. Years later, they turn this unbelievable experience into the most romantic fairy tale in their children’s eyes.
