Wedding Night in the 1980s: The Rough Village Bully Has Her Cornered

Su Yu became a widow on her wedding night and was branded a jinx throughout the surrounding villages. Her in-laws wanted to drown her, while her own family planned to sell her to a fool in exchange for a bride price. With nowhere else to turn, on a stormy night she knocked on the door of Zhou Lie, the “living Yama” at the end of the village.

Zhou Lie was a hardened man who had done time. Even the village dogs gave him a wide berth. Soaked through, her red dress clinging to her body, Su Yu trembled as she asked, “Zhou Lie, do you dare marry me? If you do, I’ll make sure you live better than anyone else.”

Zhou Lie stubbed out his cigarette. His gaze was wolfish as he pulled into the house the beauty every man in the village fantasized about. His voice hoarse, he said, “What the hell would I be afraid of? Once you cross this threshold, I’ll give you my life.”

The whole village waited for Su Yu to be ruined or for Zhou Lie to be killed by her bad luck.

Instead, Zhou Lie went from a street thug to a man worth tens of thousands, and spoiled Su Yu so much she barely had to lift a finger.

Late at night, the tough man held her by the waist, his eyes red as he coaxed her softly. “Honey, give me another little girl…”
