A Kiss of Lies in Broad Daylight

I became Zhou Jin’s contract girlfriend for 365 days.

He played the devoted lover, and I acted innocent. The whole school went crazy shipping our “fairytale romance.”

Until I found a note on his phone:

“Target: Lin Zhuozhuo. Mission: Obtain evidence about Lin Jianguo’s car accident.”

I smiled and opened my encrypted folder.

Inside were recordings of his mother driving my father to his death.

On a rainy night, we confronted each other on the rooftop. His eyes red, he asked me, “Did you ever love me at all?”

I gripped the voice recorder and pressed it to his chest.

“Zhou Jin, guess who’s directing this play?”

Later, his family went bankrupt, and his mother went to prison.

The day I left for another country, he stood outside the airport for seven hours.

Five years later, I returned to China. His company, built from nothing, had gone public.

His employees said there was only one thing in President Zhou’s desk drawer: a photo of me at seventeen, wearing my school uniform and turning back to smile at him.

But they didn’t know...

On the back of the photo, I’d written a few small words:

“Zhou Jin, this was an act too.”
