Peace and Safety, Year After Year

Male-male romance + sickly protagonist + mutually exclusive devotion Luo Jinnian is a hopelessly unlucky little miser. He has an uncanny ability to sense danger, but he is so frail that a gust of wind could knock him over. He faints whenever he tries to have his fortune told, and every attempt to improve his finances leaves him poorer. When he spots Jiang Sui'an being haunted by a shadowy figure, Luo Jinnian risks the backlash of his ability to warn him, only to be dismissed as a liar by the superstitious-nonsense-hating Jiang Sui'an. Luo Jinnian learns that their fates are bound together. Again and again, he trades away his own life force to keep things temporarily peaceful. From coughing up blood to falling unconscious, his body is already at the end of its rope. At last, after Luo Jinnian once again deliberately sabotages Jiang Sui'an's career and reveals a secret forbidden by the Jiang family, Jiang Sui'an presses a gun to his forehead. “Get out of the Jiang family. Now!” But Luo Jinnian, with his gift of premonition, knows that if he walks out that door today, he will die. “I'm not leaving. If I go through that door today, I'm sure to die.” Luo Jinnian begs desperately, but all he gets in return are two gunshots and Jiang Sui'an's words: “If you don't get out, you'll die right now!” … Jiang Sui'an hates the fraud who spouts nonsense about ghosts and gods and has turned his life upside down… That one shot severed the bond tying their fates together, and cut off Luo Jinnian's only chance of survival… When the truth finally comes to light, Jiang Sui'an holds the little miser, whose life has long since ebbed away, and weeps as he kneels until his knees are shattered. He frantically begs every god in heaven, willing to give away all his wealth if only they will bring his little miser back…
