The Yin Eye Sees the Truth

His name is Yuan Qingning. Born on the Ghost Festival, he has a pair of eyes that should not exist.

His childhood was filled with reflections in mirrors and eerie shadows outside the door. His grandfather paid with his life to "cover his eyes," buying him more than a decade of peace. Then, at the start of university, the seal began to loosen. The twin ghostly shadows that had haunted him since childhood clung to him once more, and the campus became a realm of ghosts.

"They're protecting you," the medium girl You Xiyan tells him coldly. The companion spirits that terrify him, Yinyue and Yin Qi, are actually his only guardians. The soul of the grandfather he relies on is burning away in secret to protect him.

When his adoptive father, Uncle Chen, and his master, Ling Yue, both die protecting him, and the family-inherited peachwood sword is pressed into his hands, Yuan Qingning finally understands: with his extremely yin constitution, he is the perfect vessel for an ancient evil spirit's arrival. If he keeps fleeing and giving in to fear, those who protect him will keep dying.

He must face every demon and specter, take up the peachwood sword, and accept the true name that represents his fate and power:

Yuan Guizhen.
