Restarting My Political Career: I Use Escape-Room Thinking to Flip the Table

Su Weowan, a top escape-room designer, is unexpectedly hired by the Copper City Planning and Heritage Preservation Bureau, an organization infamous for its rigid procedures and inefficiency. The city worships extreme steampunk aesthetics: intricate gears, exposed brass pipes, and elaborate mechanical structures are more than decoration. They symbolize the bureaucracy’s ossified, tangled nature. Su Weowan discovers that the power struggles, loopholes, and personnel networks inside this vast, rusting institution are just like the elaborate escape-room puzzles she designs.

Rules that seem impossible to break to everyone else are combination locks waiting for her to crack. The tangled conflicts of interest between colleagues are hidden rooms whose key clues she must find. The traps set by her superiors are mechanisms she excels at turning against them. Su Weowan has no golden finger; her only weapon is the escape-room designer’s instinct to turn every problem into a model. She uses reverse engineering to uncover the truth, exploits System loopholes to accomplish the “impossible,” and solves one puzzle after another, rising from a low-level employee to a seat at the table of power. In the end, she personally “designs” and activates the bureaucracy’s “reboot mechanism,” dismantling its rotten gears one by one and replacing them with a brand-new core. The appeal lies in watching the heroine use her unconventional professional mindset to outclass everyone in the serious, rigid world of government, repeatedly pulling off triumphant “amateur teaches the experts” showdowns.
