Fa Hai Becomes Tang Sanzang and Sets Off on the Journey to the West

Lin Dalong is a software engineer born in the 2000s and an obsessive fan of the Journey to the West. He especially loves Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie. The more he learns about the whole story, the more he realizes that the Journey to the West calamity is one huge conspiracy, much like workplace politics. Sun Wukong does all the work, but Heaven and Western Buddhism divide up the merit from the calamity. The so-called enlightenment Sun Wukong and Zhu Bajie attain is hollow; their cultivation stagnates, and they never even escape their monkey and pig origins. He thinks this is deeply unfair, so he develops an AI System of his own. He selects people from history and mythology and sends them to take Tang Sanzang’s place, hoping to change the outcome of the calamity. For his first attempt, he feeds Fahai to the AI, making Fahai a young “Tang Sanzang” with quasi-immortal cultivation.
