The Race for the Golden Triangle

Luo You graduated from a mediocre undergraduate college and worked as a draftsman at a construction engineering company. Unemployed in middle age and abandoned by his materialistic girlfriend, he took his last 3,000 yuan to Yunnan's remote borderlands to clear his head. By chance, he fell into a valley and transmigrated to the Yunnan border in 1948, just as the War of Liberation was nearing its end. When he woke, he had become the chief of staff of the Nationalist Army's 93rd Army, retreating with the remnants of his force into the chaos of the Golden Triangle.

He lay low and bided his time, taking command without bloodshed by exploiting divisions within the army. He became commander of the 93rd Army and took on the secret mission of uniting the region and stabilizing the people.

Facing a Golden Triangle divided among seven armed factions, Luo You plotted his moves from behind the scenes and led his four top aides on campaigns across the region. With strategy and force, he brought the Shan, Wa, Miao, and other factions into line. He also consolidated his rule by marrying five tribal princesses and having children, gradually uniting the Golden Triangle's core forces.

Once his unification campaign had gained momentum, Luo You boldly declared war on the region's biggest drug lord and moved to eradicate drug cultivation and trafficking. But a trusted aide betrayed him, leaving him surrounded and nearly killed. Keeping his composure in the crisis, he led his troops in eliminating the traitors and capturing the drug lord, eradicating the Golden Triangle's drug scourge for good.

Afterward, Luo You turned away from war and the drug economy. He led the people in promoting alternative crops and developing tourism and handicrafts, driving the region's economic transformation. The once-chaotic Golden Triangle gradually moved toward peace and prosperity, as he forged a legend of faith, power struggles, conquest, and redemption.
