The Soviet Union: The Trotskyist Path

Synopsis of *The Soviet Union: The Trotskyist Path* As the flames of war sweep across the globe in the twentieth century and the shadows of capitalism and bureaucracy fall over the spark of revolution, a shoemaker from the slums of Buenos Aires, Argentina, follows the light of Trotskyist faith along a lonely, radical path through the cracks of history. He is Julio Posadas, a thinker and activist dismissed as a “heretic” by the mainstream left, yet one who kindles the Trotskyist flame across Latin America. Spanning half a century, this epic takes Posadas's real life as its foundation and a Trotskyist revolutionary narrative as its soul, unfolding a grand panorama from trade union agitation to international polemics, from the split in the Fourth International to the birth of Posadism. As a young man, he organizes shoemakers' strikes and spreads the spark of class struggle through the streets and alleys of Argentina. He then joins the Latin American Bureau of the Fourth International, passionately debating comrades around the world in defense of Trotskyist principles. Finally, in 1963, he breaks with the old faction and establishes his own “Fourth International.” Throughout it all, he relies on solitary courage to fight the siege of capitalism and the “betrayal” of Stalinism. Here, real historical milestones provide the backdrop: the wave of national liberation movements in Latin America, the Iron Curtain of the US-Soviet Cold War, and the upheaval on the international left during the Cultural Revolution all serve as fertile ground for his theories. Here, too, are his uniquely radical proclamations: nuclear war is not the end of the world, but a catalyst for destroying the old order; the communist praxis of extraterrestrial civilizations will bring the ultimate force to Earth's revolution. This book follows the Trotskyist path in its storytelling, deviating greatly from actual history.
