Iris in the Palm of His Hand

He treated me like a queen, but he never loved me.

My name is Lin Wan. I was the caged songbird kept by business tycoon Gu Yanzhi. He gave me every indulgence, but only because he saw another woman’s shadow in me.

For five years, he called me “Wanwan” with such tenderness. Then I found an urn engraved with the name “Su Wan” in his study.

He held it and murmured gently, “Wanwan, her eyes really do look like yours.”

At last, I touched my face, so similar to Su Wan’s, and smiled as I swallowed a whole bottle of sleeping pills.

“Gu Yanzhi, this time, I’m giving her back her eyes.”

He didn’t know that on the third day after my death, the diagnosis would reveal I was carrying his child.

And he would lose, forever, the last person in this world who looked like her.
