A Beauty Amid the Flames: Huangpu's Iron Blood

Blazing Flames: Huangpu's Iron-Blooded Warriors In 1937, as the flames of all-out resistance against Japan spread across the Central Plains, Shen Yanzhi and Su Wan, graduates of the fourteenth class of the Huangpu Military Academy, meet among crowds fleeing their homes. Japanese forces have trampled their homelands: Shen Yanzhi's family is trapped in besieged Nanjing, while Su Wan's relatives and friends were killed in a massacre in Kaifeng. United by their hatred of the enemy and the loss of their loved ones, they join fellow graduates to form the Iron-Blooded Student Corps. Independent of both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, this student army is fluent in Japanese and several other languages, and shoulders the burden of resistance with the strength of youth. They refuse to be absorbed by any political party, yet ally with the New Fourth Army. From their first mission to sabotage Japanese supply lines, to sneaking into Nanjing and witnessing the massacre of 300,000 Chinese compatriots, to venturing deep into North China to expose the crimes against humanity committed by Unit 731, every step brings them to the brink of death. The blood of comrades, the people's cries of grief, and their own wounds strip away the idealism of these students, forging them in the flames of war into resolute fighters. After ten years of war, victory finally arrives, but the fires of civil war soon flare up. Faced with the tragedy of brothers fighting one another, they remain true to their original mission of protecting the people, choosing their path amid the turmoil. From the Huangpu campus to the battlefield, from the front lines against the Japanese to the dawn of peace, they write an epic of resistance belonging to the youth of a turbulent age, and bear witness to a nation reborn from suffering.
