This is the fourth installment in the author's five-part Strange Tales series.
The story centers on the town where butcher Xia Fengwei lives. After a dispute over a car accident, Xia Fengwei hands Zhang Lan and her husband over to a breeding boar named Heikui. From then on, strange events plague the pig farm: Heikui devours people, pig feed turns up mixed with human fingernails and hair, and townspeople die one after another. A young woman at a mahjong parlor is bitten to death by a pig, a daughter-in-law jumps from a building amid conflict with her mother-in-law, and a newborn vanishes after its mother dies in childbirth. As the truth comes to light, Xia Fengwei's son, Xia Xiaobo, mutates after eating Heikui's meat. Police chief Ye Qiao and deputy chief Tao Liang also meet their ends, one after another, because of corruption and cover-ups.
