The Reaper Has Arrived: My Ghost Fiancée

Jia Gu Zhe, a 25-year-old office drone, has three dreams in a row in which his grandfather, dressed in an underworld official's uniform, urges him to burn joss paper. He assumes it's a side effect of working overtime, until an aged marriage contract and a bronze “Ninth-Rank Sun Patrol Envoy” waist token suddenly appear beside his bed. He's actually become an officially appointed underworld constable, and he's even bound to a ghost fiancée who's been dead for five hundred years! By the window floats Ye Shikong, a Ming-dynasty commandery princess in a traditional ruqun, her face full of disdain. “I've waited five hundred years, and this is what I get?” Jia Gu Zhe clutches the marriage contract in bewilderment. On one side is an underworld job where he has to clock in through the “Yinsi Connect” app; on the other is an ancient ghost who complains that modern takeout tastes awful. How can an office drone's otherworldly career be even more absurd than the 996 grind? And that's not all: the underworld has a complete bureaucratic system. The exchange rate for spirit money fluctuates with the stock market in the living world, merit points can be traded for the ability to walk through walls, and the Ten Kings of Hell even conduct performance reviews! Jia Gu Zhe tries using SWOT analysis to write his work reports and applying corporate management techniques to settle feuds among the underworld constables, turning modern office skills into powerful tools for reforming the underworld. But trouble is never far away. Maoshan Celestial Master Tan Shuying shows up to pick a fight, pointing her compass at him and calling him a “fake underworld constable.” Police consultant Han Yixiang brings him a string of paranormal cases and demands “official cooperation.” The dark arts master Zhou Guisha throws everything into chaos, claiming he'll overthrow the order between yin and yang... With his ghost fiancée in his left hand and the “Yinsi Connect” app open in his right, Jia Gu Zhe accepts assignments, plays Buddhist sutras on his phone while exorcising ghosts, and manages the underworld's finances during a spirit-currency crisis.
