Reborn in 2000: My Partner and I Build Cutting-Edge Tech by Hand

In 2077, the International Criminal Police Organization's ace duo, tech expert Ling Yunche and field operative Mu Wanxing, were caught in a temporal rift while pursuing criminals who traveled through time. Both were killed.

When they woke up, they found themselves back in the year 2000, a “prehistoric era” when pagers were still in use and getting online required dial-up. They had also become rookie officers fresh out of the police academy, assigned to the city bureau's archives department.

Faced with files on long-unsolved cases, Mu Wanxing smiled. “I've seen the answers to all these cases in the future's crime museum.”

Looking at the decrepit 586 computer, Ling Yunche sighed. “Fine. We'll start from scratch. First, let's put together a little ‘Skynet’ system for you.”

Their colleagues at the bureau were soon astonished:

The quiet archivist Ling Yunche could hack into the servers of international gambling syndicates with just a few lines of code. The beautiful rookie policewoman Mu Wanxing could use a blurry surveillance still to sketch exactly what a suspect would look like ten years later.

While everyone else was tearing their hair out over fingerprint comparisons, the two were already using their own DNA sequence-matching and facial recognition systems.

The criminals were completely crushed. What is with the police these days? We feel like we're running around naked!
