Global Apocalypse: My Novel Became Reality

Late one night, college student Chen Fan is working a part-time shift at a convenience store when an armed robber strikes. As he fights back, a mysterious ability activates, showing him the attacker's death three seconds in the future. After being forced to kill, he discovers a black card bearing a tomato emblem on the man. Before the police arrive, a mysterious figure in a trench coat takes the card. Chen Fan is forcibly transported to a mysterious place called the "Reading Room," where he meets three other people with abilities: the level-headed doctor Su Hang, rebellious girl Tang Ning, and veteran soldier Zhang Meng. An electronic voice announces that they are "readers chosen by the Tomato" and must complete a "reading mission" every month: enter a novel's world and survive. Their first mission takes them to a zombie apocalypse, where they must survive for 24 hours. Zhang Meng is infected while protecting Tang Ning. A week later in the real world, their second mission takes place in a martial arts world, where they must seize the "Heartless Sword Manual." Chen Fan's ability to see the future saves them several times. Su Hang discovers that the mission worlds generate content in real time based on the participants' fears. They encounter another hostile group of "readers." Tang Ning is gravely wounded trying to take the manual, whose final page is made from human skin. Back in the real world, Tang Ning is near death from her injuries. The mysterious figure appears at the hospital, revealing that they used to be a "reader" and hinting that there may be a way to rebel against the "Tomato." The third mission begins early, taking them to a Cthulhu-style seafaring world. Chen Fan overuses his ability to save his companions and temporarily loses his sight. At the end of the mission, the electronic voice announces that next month will bring the "Final Reading Test," and only one group can survive.
