A Surname Without Love

Synopsis of The Surname Does Not Come with Love

She once thought her life would be trapped forever among the dishes her father smashed and his icy scolding. In Lin Xiaoxiao’s childhood, even the hope of “eating a meal in peace” was a luxury. Her father, Lin Hao, was hot-tempered, and her family looked the other way, leaving her too frightened to speak above a whisper. It wasn’t until her mother, Su Man, fled with her in the middle of the night that she learned for the first time that a home could be free of shouting, and that someone could place a warm meal in her hands.

She thought she had been reborn, but falling behind in school and the shadows of the past made her doubt herself again and again. Then she met her close friend Li Yu, and the two of them made a pact to “get into a top high school together.” She met the gentle Zhang Lei, who helped her understand what it meant to be cherished. And she met Chen Yang, the boy who stayed with her in the lab, worked through difficult problems alongside her, and made “I’m here for you” part of their years together.

She fought with all her might to catch up, going from near the bottom of her class to the city’s top 50, from an ordinary undergraduate to a postgraduate student at a top 985 university, and then to developing equipment that solved electricity problems for tens of thousands of villagers. The girl who once trembled in the dark had become a light for others.

But when her father, finally awakened to the truth, appeared with remorse, and her grandmother held her hand and wept as she apologized, how would she face the buried pain and the challenge of reconciliation?

This is not a story of an effortless rise to success. It is the story of a girl who, carrying her scars, turned a “bad hand” into a “royal flush” through love and courage. Open the book and see how Lin Xiaoxiao breaks through the gloom and becomes her own sunshine.
