A Harmonious Family for All Generations

A Home That Thrives for Generations is an inspirational family story set against the state-owned enterprise reforms of the 1990s. In the winter of 1996, middle-aged factory worker Zhao Jianguo is laid off, and his wife Xiulan loses her job at the same time, plunging the whole family into financial crisis. Faced with their son's tuition and daily household expenses, the couple refuse to surrender to fate. They start a difficult business venture by selling dumplings from a street stall, using a family recipe.

From a small stand outside the workers' housing compound to a stall in the market, and then to the Jiahe Dumpling Shop, the Zhao family supports one another through hard times. Their daughter, Xiaohui, gives up her art book to buy shoes for her younger brother, while their son, Xiaogang, gets into university and gives the family hope. Guided by the belief that a harmonious family brings prosperity, they grow their traditional handmade dumplings into the Jiahe Wanshi food company.

Through ten years of struggle, the story portrays the resilience and resourcefulness of an ordinary Chinese family amid a changing era. In times of material hardship, the family resolves conflicts with love and responsibility, and builds a happy life with their own hands, expressing the deeper meaning of Jiahe Wanshi: harmony at home brings prosperity in all things. This is a story about love and perseverance, and a warm memory of an era.
