Burn Three Incense Sticks, Break Through the Gates of the Underworld: I Keep Watch Over the Living

The city seems peaceful on the surface, but beneath it, sinister forces are stirring. The dead should pass on to the underworld, yet evil incidents keep occurring: souls are taken by mistake, lingering obsessions remain, and rifts are opened. For generations, the Chen family has served as Night Watchers, using three sticks of incense to keep the realms of yin and yang in balance and ward off evil. Now the Night Watcher lineage is all but extinct. The only one left is Chen Yan, an intern at the First Municipal Hospital and a barely qualified heir. His girlfriend dies a mysterious death, and the corpse in the morgue writes “Save me” in incense ash. The underworld’s turmoil is quietly beginning. By chance, he gains the power of his family’s ancestral incense arts. Soul-Guiding Incense reaches into the underworld, Purifying Incense drives away evil spirits, and Heaven-Burning Incense can defy fate and change the course of events. The price is steep, but he has no other choice. As the incense burns, he can glimpse the affairs of the dead, solve eerie cases, and calm restless souls. While others avoid ghostly cases at all costs, he faces them head-on. While others still fear the unknown, he has already entered the night with incense in hand, walking alone between life and death. The rift to the underworld is about to open, while the Nether-Summoning Cult wreaks havoc in secret. Only he can burn the three incenses, break through the gates of the underworld, and guard humanity through the long night.
