Journey to the West: The Pilgrim Sets the Three Realms Straight

Chen Xuan, a ruthless financial swindler, unexpectedly transmigrated into the Primordial World and became the reincarnation of Jin Chanzi: the ninth and penultimate life of Tang Sanzang, the central pawn in the calamity of Journey to the West! In the original story, this poor fool was destined to be chewed into a pile of bones by Sha Wujing at the Flowing Sand River in all nine of his lives!

A death trap from the start? Just as Chen Xuan was about to grab the cash and run (or, rather, pack his bags and flee), the [Strongest Merit-Making Fortune System] awakened!

One step west = one year of cultivation! Overcome one trial = a mountain of Heavenly Dao merit! Gather three disciples and a night-shift bodyguard? Prove the Dao and attain Primordial Unity on the spot! Deliver the scriptures to the Western Heaven? Go straight to the very peak of Primordial Unity!

Chen Xuan had planned to get rich quietly, but as he picked up his monk’s staff, he suddenly understood: Retrieving the scriptures was just a job. Making money (merit), stirring up trouble (setting up immortals and Buddhas), and recruiting disciples were what life was all about!

And so, the whole tone of the Primordial World changed:

Guanyin: “This demon monk stole my kasaya and then asked me for a receipt?!”

Lingji: “He’s accusing me of starting a business with the Yellow Wind Monster?!”

Zhen Yuanzi: “The Ginseng Fruit Tree is an inheritance of the Jie Sect? He’s threatening and bribing Bai Suzhen to demolish my Wuzhuang Temple?!”

The Jade Emperor: “Why is there an official order from the Celestial Court at the scene of the theft in the Peach Garden?!”

The Tathagata: “What do you mean, he’s a personal disciple of the Buddha of No Heavens? And now he wants to open the nineteenth level of hell and charge a toll?!”

As the gods and Buddhas across the worlds beat their chests in anguish, Chen Xuan stood by the Flowing Sand River with a kind expression and knocked Sha Wujing unconscious with his staff. “A tenth life? In this life, I’m going to reform the Three Realms, every last bit of it, with interest!”
